Toasts to the new year are extra special when centered around a sparkle board. Of course, we offer the traditional bubbly drinks and black-eyed peas for good luck. If you’re not already a fan of black-eyed peas, you will be once you add bacon. Only a bite is required for the folklore luck. We’ve layered in all the fun meats, cheeses, olives, and sweets. Don’t forget to light a sparkler for a fun effect.
Board Ingredients:
1 ice mold suited for a wine chiller
1 bottle sparkling cider (nonalcoholic is just as fun)
2 cups black-eyed peas cooked with real bacon
5 shooter glasses
5 mini white cupcakes with sprinkles
1 cup mixed olives
8 pieces salami
6 slices Gouda cheese
6 slices swiss cheese
12 crackers
20 chocolate gold coins
1 cup white chocolate–covered pretzels
8 pieces white fudge
5 chocolate hazelnut truffles, wrapped
1 sparkler (optional)
Board Directions:
First, use a specialty ice mold to create a cooler for your sparkling wine or cider. Begin by filling the mold with gold curling ribbon. Then fill the container with water and freeze for 4 hours. Run the mold under room-temperature water to unmold. Place your sparkling cider inside the ice container to chill. Spoon your black-eyed peas into shooter glasses and add mini forks, and place them on the board. Add your cupcakes and olive medley next, and then layer in the meat, cheese, crackers, and sweet treats.
Place a sparkler, if desired, in one of the cupcakes and carefully light it, ringing in the new year. As always, supervise the little ones and proceed safely with lighters and sparks.
