It was very difficult to try to communicate the horrific events of the brutal massacre against Israel on October 7, 2023. The first part of this book went through many rewrites. Our goal was to be as brutally honest as possible, while still showing respect to the many victims, both living and dead. Across the nation, children of this generation suffer greatly, with many living in fear that they will die at the hands of the invaders. Our hope is that this book reveals to the reader some of those scars.
Despite having been knocked down, the resulting effect of the brutal massacre against Israel on October 7 has buoyed this nation. Over the centuries, we Jews have learned to feed off our pain. Our woundedness is what has most Israelis determined to finish the job against the terrorist groups that surround our nation. Imagine you live in a country that has evil people living just across your borders. These malicious criminals have already proven their willingness, and their excitement, to cross your borders and slaughter your people. That is the experience of those of us who live in Israel.
It is true that there is a minority of people in this country who are seeking to appease the terrorists and, more importantly, the world stage. They want peace, no matter the price. Unfortunately, they are very vocal, and they have the media on their side. Thankfully, our prime minister has thus far stood strong and has promised to see this necessary battle through to the end.
The activities you’ll read about in
The Sick Man’s Rage are from our own imagination. However, they find their genesis in the real operations of Israeli intelligence. Just ask Fuad Shukr and Ismail Haniyeh, who died within a day of each other in July 2024, one in Beirut and one in Tehran, about the power of the Mossad. The violent ends of Mohammed Deif and Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Razi Mousavi and a host of other men also laid the foundation for the actions of the novel’s protagonist, Nir Tavor, and the other Kidon teams in this work of fiction. We were forced to avoid using the real names of terrorists because they were all getting removed from the playing board faster than we could write the book.
There are a few real names we kept, but all are of national leaders or historical figures. These we kept in order to keep a tie in with the past, with today’s news, and with the previous books in our series. This is not true, however, with the Israeli government. The prime minister in this book in no way is meant to represent Benjamin Netanyahu, and no one in our prime minister’s cabinet or in other leadership positions is based on any specific person.
One of our purposes in writing this book is to show the growing alliances that fit directly into biblical prophecy. Ever since the time we published our first thriller, Operation Joktan, three years ago, the ties between Russia, Iran, and Turkey have only gotten stronger.
The prophecies of the Bible are being played out on the world stage. Never in history have we seen Russia, Turkey, and Iran allied together. But now, as specifically talked about in Ezekiel 38, we find this three-nation axis of evil uniting under a single goal—the eventual pillaging and destruction of Israel. The Jewish people are now back in the land, as promised in Ezekiel 36–37. The alliance of Ezekiel 38 has formed against them.
Some cry, “What an incredible coincidence!” We find ourselves agreeing with Nir Tavor, that coincidence is only an excuse for those not willing to step back and see the big picture.
