Toasts to the new year are extra special when centered around a sparkleboard. Of course, we offer the traditional bubbly drinks and black-eyedpeas for good luck. If you’re not already a fan of black-eyed peas, you willbe once you add bacon. Only a bite is required for the folklore luck. We’velayered in all the fun meats, cheeses, olives, and sweets. Don’t forget tolight a sparkler for a fun effect.
Board Ingredients:
1 ice mold suited for a wine chiller
1 bottle sparkling cider(nonalcoholic is just as fun)
2 cups black-eyed peas cookedwith real bacon
5 shooter glasses
5 mini white cupcakes withsprinkles
1 cup mixed olives
8 pieces salami
6 slices Gouda cheese
6 slices swiss cheese
12 crackers
20 chocolate gold coins
1 cup white chocolate–coveredpretzels
8 pieces white fudge
5 chocolate hazelnut truffles,wrapped
1 sparkler (optional)
Board Directions:
First, use a specialty ice mold to create a cooler for yoursparkling wine or cider. Begin by filling the mold with goldcurling ribbon. Then fill the container with water and freezefor 4 hours. Run the mold under room-temperature water tounmold. Place your sparkling cider inside the ice container tochill. Spoon your black-eyed peas into shooter glasses and addmini forks, and place them on the board. Add your cupcakesand olive medley next, and then layer in the meat, cheese,crackers, and sweet treats.
Place a sparkler, if desired, in one of the cupcakes and carefullylight it, ringing in the new year. As always, supervise thelittle ones and proceed safely with lighters and sparks.
