Truth - Day 56
Posted on Apr 17, 2017 Topic :
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
1 Peter 4:12-13
God tells us we shouldn’t be surprised when we suffer. It’s as if he’s asking, “Whatever gave you the idea that you weren’t supposed to suffer?”
I’ve often heard that it’s not God’s will for his children to suffer. Yet God speaks about “those who suffer according to God’s will” (1 Peter 4:19).
God’s truth is that he will deliver believers from eternal suffering. And he will deliver us through present suffering, though not always from it. Remember that whatever adversity we face, Christ has been there first and promises he will be us then (Matthew 28:20).
“Christ leads me through no darker rooms than he went through before.”
Richard Baxter
