No Conflicting Reports

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 1 JOHN 1:5-6 NIV

Some time ago, I attended the funeral of an older gentleman. As I sat with his friends, co-workers, and family members in the chapel, I listened as one by one they took turns saying a few words in tribute. The final person to speak was the gentleman’s best friend. He stood up and said, “The most fitting tribute to our friend is that there are no conflicting reports today about what kind of man he was.”

I’ve thought about those words often since that day at the funeral. What if that could be said about me? What if I could live my life loving God and loving others with such authenticity that when I reach the end, there will be no conflicting reports?

The Bible makes it clear that in Him there is no darkness. May our lives be held up to His light every day so there can be no conflicting reports about how we say we live and how we really live.

Ask God to show you any inconsistencies in your life and in your relationships. Make it your prayer that you get to the end of this day and the end of your life with no darkness and no conflicting reports.
