Come to Me Just as You Are
Posted on Jan 12, 2015 Topic : Weekly Devotionals
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. (1 JOHN 3:21)
If we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 JOHN 5:15)
The apostle John gives us two “if’s” about prayer: If our hearts do not condemn us, and if we know that He hears us. The Lord is not outdone, even by our failures. He says, “Come to Me just as you are!” The assurance of the cross gives us boldness and confidence. To get us to pray, the Lord removes the barriers, creates the desire, gives us Himself, reveals His will, and then gives us the courage to ask for what He is more ready to give than we are to ask.
Often, our reluctance to pray is our resistance to God. But eventually life caves in, and we face problems too great for us. God rushes in to help us in the hope that we will be so amazed at what He can do with problems that we will begin to trust Him with our potentials. The question is, How great do we want our life to be?
"Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance; it is laying hold of His highest willingness." —RICHARD CHENEVIX TRENCH
