Roses in December

Comfort for the Grieving Heart

Used for years by individuals, grief counselors, and support groups, Roses in December has helped readers understand the grieving process, support family members, give insight into sibling grief, and maintain their marriages during difficult times. This newly revised edition offers the same compassion and encouragement plus chapters on losing loved ones under special circumstances, such as suicide and AIDS.

With deep empathy, Marilyn helps those who are grieving find God’s comfort. Having lost three sons, she knows the tremendous sorrows and struggles that come with the death of loved ones. Yet she shares how even in the winters of our lives God provides roses—special occasions, special people, and special memories—to give us strength and draw close to Him.

Roses in December touched me so deeply that I have given it to numerous friends and family who were suffering with the loss of a loved one.  Who better to write a book on grief than one who has experienced it so intimately?  Marilyn Heavilin has a gift with words.  Her emotions came to life—you could easily feel, understand, and relate to them.  It’s not a technical book on grief psychology, but rather a journey of sorrow and healing from which we can draw understanding and strength.  It’s a book to remind us to look for the sings of God’s presence—He’s all around us.”

12/21/14 Ben J. Schramm

Roses in December was just the book that we needed to read.  Our 19–year–old son was killed by a drunk driver July 14, 1996 as he was coming home from church.  He had been a heart patient and had gone through four major surgeries from the age of three months to 14 years old.  A friend that had lost a son to lupus gave us this book.  This book described exactly how we were feeling and helped us to overcome and deal with our grief and loss.  This is a wonderful book for the hurting and bereaved.  Every pastor should read this book.”

Roses in December is valuable beyond measure.  With courage, compassion, and constructive counsel Marilyn has confronted and properly revealed some of the great needs of those who have experienced the death of a child.  With great compassion she has provided keen assistance to those experiencing such grief.  With candid insight she has provided valuable assistance to those who seek to give endearing support to those in such grief.  I know of no other book that approaches the subject with the depth of feeling, the reach of love, the wisdom of experience and the knowledge of reality as does Roses in December.
“The fact that Marilyn and Glen live the experience of the victory they have described adds powerful credibility to the integrity of this powerful message.”

"Grief is a part of life and Marilyn Heavilin expresses the realities of grief clearly in Roses in December. She surely allowed her feelings to be transparent in an effort to help the readers realize what feelings they might be having. An excellent tool through the sad journey of loss."
