How to Forgive…When You Don’t Feel Like It

When someone hurts us, our natural response is to strike back. Rather than let go, we cling to our rocks of resentment, our boulders of bitterness. The result? We struggle under the weight of unforgiveness.

Though we know God has called us to forgive others, we find ourselves asking:

  • What if it hurts too much to forgive?
  • What if the other person isn’t sorry?
  • How can I let someone off the hook for doing something so wrong?

Biblical counselor June Hunt has been there herself, enabling her to speak from experience as she offers biblical help and hope with heartfelt compassion. If you’ve been pinned down under a landslide of pain, here’s how to find true freedom through forgiveness.

A Word from the Author

"'Why should I let him off the hook? It's just not fair!'

"Well, it's true—forgiveness has nothing to do with fairness. But once you really understand forgiveness, you're not letting your offender off the hook. You are moving your offender from your hook to God's hook. This means all the rocks of resentment...the stones of hostility...the boulders of bitterness are no longer weighing you down. Through forgiveness, you are set free! 'So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.' (John 8:36)"
June Hunt, author of How to Forgive...When You Don't Feel Like It

“I am a young 22 year old, who isn’t very religious at all. My mother was given the book from a friend who is an avid church-goer, and told her that the book was wonderful. I decided one day to pick it up and read. I had just gone through a breakup after 5 1/2 years, and was finding it very hard to forgive past situations that had occurred. I absolutely loved the book, and found it so true. It was so powerful and meaningful, and I was able to relate and forget. Not only did I forgive and forget for myself, but for many others as well. Great book, and I would recommend it to anyone, religious or non-religious. Either way, you will be able to gain some insight on forgiveness. Thanks!”

"Just as love is a verb, not a feeling—so is forgiveness. If we forgave based on feelings, we would never forgive any injustice done to us and most likely we would never be forgiven for an injustice we committed. But God has shown us, by example, how to forgive. June Hunt has provided us a personal and powerful tool in learning to forgive. Read How to Forgive...When You Don't Feel Like It and leave the rocky coast of resentment for everlasting freedom."
Tim Wilkins, director of Cross Ministry
