How to Pray in Light of God’s Secrets

Posted on Jan 17, 2017   Topic : Men's Christian Living, Prophecy

Prayer should be predicated on what God has already declared He will do. In order to do this effectively, we need to study His Word (graphe), understand His message (logos), and become intimate with His utterance (rhema) so that when we pray, we will know what we are to pray for in line with His will.

The Bible tells us that God has secrets that He’s willing to share with you and me. Secrets are special things you tell only those people who are closest to you. God wants you to be so close to Him that He can lean over and whisper His secrets in your ear. We read in Psalm 25:14, “The secret of the Lᴏʀᴅ is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant.”

When God reveals to you His secrets—His promises in His Word—that is when you are able to take God’s Word and send it right back to Him. That is when you can say, “God, You said in your Word…”

Prayer is holding God accountable to what He has already said He will do.

Prayer is not simply seeing something you want and claiming it. If God didn’t tell you He’s going to give you that nice new job with a corner office, then you can pray until you’re blue in the face and that nice new job will still belong to someone else. The foundation of prayer is knowing what God has already said. God has given us literally thousands of promises in His Word. I encourage you to start there.

We do ourselves a disservice when we don’t take the time to learn and know God’s Word. Our prayers become vague and empty, or they become full of things God never intended to do. Either way, we end up tossing our spiritual armor into the back of the closet and saying, “It didn’t work for me.” Then we often call someone or meet up with our friends and try to find a human solution, or at least someone who can give us sympathy for what we’re battling.

Friend, you need answers much more than you need sympathy. You need heaven to invade earth, and the only way to access heaven’s authority on earth is through prayer. It’s like the television you have at your home. There are television signals floating around in the air all the time. But you won’t be able to use those signals until you turn your television on. When you do, what was invisible becomes visible. You can see the image on your television because you have received the signal that’s being broadcast.

God has provided us—His children—with everything we need to broadcast His glory not only within our own lives but also to a world in need of seeing Him. What’s available to us in the invisible realm is accessed through prayer.
