Manuscript Submissions

Does Harvest House Publishers accept manuscript submissions?

Thank you for your interest in Harvest House Publishers, we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts, proposals, or self-published books—“unsolicited” as in all works that have not been requested for review by Harvest House—but there are many other avenues to assist you.

As a member of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, we are pleased to recommend Christian Book Proposals. You can view their website at www.christianbookproposals.com. We think you will find this to be a cost-effective way to share your proposal with the member publishers of ECPA.

If you would like to receive a thorough evaluation of your book proposal or manuscript, we recommend HonestEditing. When you submit your book proposal and two sample chapters, you will receive a two- to four-page evaluation from a professional editor within ten business days. Your evaluation will tell you what you’re doing right, what you’re doing wrong, and what can be improved. It will also give you a number of practical recommendations and cutting-edge tools you can use right away. Visit their website at HonestEditing.com.

We also recommend that new authors check out Deep River Books, a custom publishing service that works primarily with new authors in a partnership to get their books published. While Deep River Books is a full-service Christian publisher, their main calling is to mentor new authors and help them get launched. Most of their authors are referred by major publishing houses, like Harvest House, who see potential in a project but are unable to publish the author’s manuscript at this time. We think Deep River Books is a great way for selected authors to get their writing career launched. Visit their website at Deep River Books.

Another service available is The Writer’s Edge, a manuscript screening service for Christian publishers to review proposals by aspiring writers. You can contact them by mail at PO Box 1266, Wheaton, IL. 60189; by email at info@writersedgeservice.com; or through their website at WritersEdgeService.com. Please note that if you choose to post your material on a manuscript review website, it is not necessary to contact us. If we are interested in your project, we will notify you.

The Christian Writer’s Market Guide is another valuable help when searching for the right publishing house. It also contains a list of literary agents.

Finally, American Christian Writers has much to offer regarding classes, conferences (a great place to meet editors face to face), critique services, correspondence courses, marketing information and more. Their website is located at ACWriters.com; phone number is 800-21-WRITE or email ACWriters@aol.com.

If you are interested in self-publishing, you might consider Essence Publishing at Essence-Publishing.com, or Xulon Press at Xulon Press. These companies are reputable with high quality standards for their book products.

Keep in mind that Harvest House is only one of many Christian publishing houses, and opinions and programs vary from publisher to publisher. We encourage you to keep trying and suggest that you attend at least one Christian writer’s conference a year. It’s a great way to meet fellow writers and to speak with editors one on one.

Again, we appreciate your thinking of Harvest House in connection with your work, and we wish you success in your literary endeavors.
