What can Christians learn from one of the most popular TV series of all time?
In its first season, LOST averaged 15.5 million viewers per episode. The show features a cast that struggles with
the eternal issues of identity, conflict, relationships, and spirituality. Though the show does not have a Christian foundation or theme,
there is much believers can learn about social and cultural attitudes and perspectives through its episodes—such as...
the selfish bent of human nature
the darkness of evil
the hunger people have for acceptance and success
the realization of our need for God
the hope for a positive future
Many of the problems and difficulties of everyday life are captured succinctly in LOST—making it a useful
“point of reference” for understanding how different people view issues of a spiritual nature. Ankerberg and Burroughs offer
practical suggestions for Christians who desire to talk effectively to others about the various themes in the show.
John Ankerberg, host of the award-winning John Ankerberg Show, has three earned degrees: an MA in church history and the philosophy of Christian thought, an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a DMin from Luther Rice Seminary. He has coauthored the 2-million-selling Facts On series of apologetic books, as well as Taking a Stand for the Bible and Israel Under Fire.
Dillon Burroughs is staff writer for the award-winning John Ankerberg Show, broadcast by television and radio into more than 185 countries. He is the author or coauthor of 14 books, including Taking a Stand for the Bible, Generation Hex, and the revised Facts On series, as well as a professor of theology and Bible at Tennessee Temple University. Dillon and his family live in Tennessee.
“This book is of great value for groups and their study of Scripture, but certainly can stand alone for any Christian wanting to sharpen their Spiritual learning. You will also find a discussion guide at the end which is a great asset to reinforce your knowledge and use with others. All in all a work that will enrich your own walk with the Lord and be of an insurmountable help in reaching out to others and being far more comfortable that you will be equipped with answers to some of the questions thrown your way.” —The Midwest Book Review
“This book will be best enjoyed by evangelical youth groups, who will resonate with its explicitly Christian focus and the ‘Lost Talk’ discussion questions at the end of each chapter.” —Publishers Weekly

“I’m giving What Can Be Found in LOST? six out of five bookmarks with a tiny remote control and a Bible as a charm. These days, a Christian can’t be seen without the first, and needs to be armed with the second! You can either read this book for yourself to be prepared to give an answer, or pass it on to a fan of the show. ‘Lost’ fans are deep thinkers...they can handle Ankerberg and Burroughs!” —DeenasBooks.blogspot.com
“A practical tool, What Can Be Found in Lost? is designed to help readers segue a conversation about Lost and its implicit spiritual and religious undertones to a conversation about true Christianity.” —mtlMagazine.com
“What Can Be Found in LOST? isn’t a very long book, but it is a pretty intriguing read. It will only appeal to watchers of the television show, but it is also a good book to pass along to nonbelievers who like the show and are open to exploring the Christian worldview.” —TheChristianManifesto.wordpress.com
“Anyone who’s faithfully watched the TV series ‘LOST’ has certainly shrugged their shoulders in hope of understanding exactly what’s going on. The book What Can Be Found in LOST? provides a few compelling theories on what’s happening with Jack, Sawyer, Kate and the rest of the crew. But for those who’ve always suspected there was something deeper going on spiritually, the book makes countless interesting parallels that could be a springboard for an interesting Bible study or personal reflection.” —CCM
“It’s a surprisingly fun read that educates about true faith, as well as making the reader want to rush out and watch the entire series!” —ChristysBookBlog.blogspot.com
Reader Reviews
“I am very impressed at how John Ankerberg and Dillon Burroughs compare and contrast Jesus with the show LOST. I really love this book. I knew the show had some to do with the Bible including one of the characters, Jacob. There were some characterizations of Jack that I didn’t even think about comparing with Jesus until I read your book. I really love the show and after reading your book, it makes me love that show even more. I have every season of LOST on DVD so far. I appreciated reading your book. God Bless!”
